Gene Anderson Remembers the Thrill!
Eugene Anderson and Susie Prevette first bonded over their love for Carolina Athletics, but they also have a great deal more in common.
To begin with, they both have strong family ties. As children, they both had large extended families that defined them. Gene's uncles owned service stations along bustling Highway 301, so Gene grew up as part of a motor-focused family. He grew up riding motorcycles around town and motorboats on Lake Gaston. In high school, the girls swooned over the "new fangled" electric windows in his 1954 Oldsmobile 98 Convertible while his buddies coveted the power of his "gentleman's muscle car."
Susie also had a large extended family. Her uncles were large land holders who made their living from the forests and farmland. The daughter of a civil engineer and a guidance counselor, Susie grew up water-skiing at White Lake in the summers and horseback riding with her cousins in the cooler months. Like Gene, she was smart and popular in high school. And like her mother, she was chosen Homecoming Queen.
When Gene and Susie formed families of their own, they not only taught their children to love and be responsible for their families, but also to seek the gratification that comes from working hard and making the world a better place. Gene's three daughters are now a pharmacist, an optometrist and a speech pathologist. Susie's son is a water quality engineer and her daughter is an attorney.
Between them, Eugene Anderson and Susie Prevette have 12 beautiful, healthy, awesome grandchildren who bring them amazement and delight. Life is certainly good!
